ISSS 2026 explainer
This explainer video was created for the 2026 ISSS conference to showcase the history and achievements of Czech eGovernment digitalization. The goal was to transform a complex timeline of technological and legislative milestones into a clear visual narrative that would serve as one of the conference's main presentation pieces.
From Sketchbook
Like many animation projects, the process started with nothing more than a notebook and a pen. Based on a list of key milestones, I sketched the individual scenes and visual transitions, exploring how the story could unfold in the simplest possible form. Many of these early sketches remained surprisingly close to the final animation, illustrating how the core visual language was established long before production began.
Visual Metaphor
The conference identity was built around the idea of flowing lines carrying data and legislation, which became the central visual metaphor of the film. The animation begins with a single digital service represented by one evolving line. As the story progresses, the line grows into an increasingly complex network, reflecting the expansion of digital public services and the legislative framework that supports them.
The visual language mirrors the development of the system itself through two parallel storytelling layers. While each milestone is illustrated with its own dedicated scene, a network of flowing lines remains present throughout the film, running subtly in the background as a continuous representation of data, legislation, and the growing digital infrastructure. Between the main chapters, these lines take center stage, gradually expanding from a single path into an organized network that visually connects the entire story.

From Chaos to Order
At first, the lines appear tangled and uncertain, reflecting the complexity of the early stages of digitalization. As the timeline progresses, they slowly straighten into an ordered structure running in parallel, symbolizing a mature, interconnected, and continuously evolving eGovernment ecosystem. The narrative is further reinforced by a carefully paced voice-over and subtle, playful sound design, adding warmth and accessibility to a subject that could otherwise feel highly technical.
